Dark Carnival is a week-long celebration of horror, featuring live sideshow entertainment, live bands, merchandise, after-hours parties, special guests and more! But most of all, it's about the movies! This year Dark Carnival will be screening more than 40 films over a span of six days, making the show one of the largest indie horror film festivals in the country! Screening venues include the Cinemat Screening Room, the Rose Firebay auditorium, the Starlight Drive-In, and the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater - a 1930s era movie house. Dark Carnival is held in Bloomington, Indiana (home of Indiana University- just an hour south of Indianapolis) and this year's fest runs September 16-21, 2008 I will be there, just not sure what days right now.

Atlanta Horror Fest October 23-26, 2008. Now in the third year Atlanta Horror Fest has decided its time to go much bigger with the festival. That means bigger bands, bigger movies, vendors, contests, parties, special events, larger Zombie Walk, the list goes on! But the most exciting part of it all, They now have the Masquerade booked for the festival. That's three levels of bars, stages, screens, patios, etc. Housed in a turn-of-the-century mill building, and often claimed to be haunted. there couldnt be a more amazing place for an event like this. The Masquerade has been known since its inception in 1989 as one of the country's most unique nightclub facilities. Also for all you younger fiends out there...it's an all ages show.

Fright Night Film Fest 2008 & Museum of Death

Looks like it’s about that time again. Next August 15th - 17th will be the 2008 Fright Night Film Fest here in Louisville. Last year was the 1st year I attended and I had a had a great time. Once again I will be a guest at the show. Good news for this year, I created the poster for the show so be sure to grab yourself a copy.
Like I said above last year was great and this year looks to be even better with a lot of cool guests that even I look forward to seeing. Artist for the Kiss albums Ken Kelly, artist the original Ghost Rider Gary Friedrich. Mick Foley!!!, The tall man himself Angus Scrimm from the movie Phantasm, The 30th anniversary of Halloween with guests Tommy Lee Walace, Brain Andrews, and more Plus Danielle Harris for Rob Zombies Halloween and Dick Warlock from Halloween 2 & 3! Wow. If that is not enough how about Cousin it & Wednesday from The Addams Family, Sgt. Steel from Day of the Dead, Tiffany Shepis, Friday the 13th reunion, Texas Chainsaw reunion, Al Snow, films, monster toys and more. Going to be a fun time in Louisville come August 15th.

The 2008 St James Court Art Show poster winner has been named. Jeff Gaither, from Louisville is the winner! His artwork was chosen from 50 entries. His design will be officially unveiled at the 2008 St James Court Art Show Gala presented by Park Community Credit Union on Saturday, September 27. To read more about the poster winner…

This year’s St. James Court Art Show poster was designed by Jeff Gaither. Jeff is a self-taught ‘old school’ mixed media artist, using mostly Rapidograph pens, Black Warrior pencils, and acrylic paint. Photoshop, photography, and sculpting are some of the newer ways he has been expressing his creativity. Recently, Jeff has been designing advertising posters for and been a guest at several national horror related conventions. Jeff enjoys collecting horror related memorabilia such as toys, movies, books, DVDs, and music. Jeff also has an interest in true crime, UFO’s, crypto zoology, and conspiracy theories.
Locally, you may have seen Jeff’s art on cover of The LEO, Velocity, Louisville Music News, Wired, Louisville Music News, branding art and annual poster for The Forecastle Festival, The Kentucky Psychological Association’s “Heads-Up” exhibit, or CD covers and/or shirt designs on one of the hundreds of bands he has done work for, such as Guns-N-Roses, Van Halen, Testament, The Misfits, The Undead, Hirax, The Accused, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, GG Allin, Insane Clown Posse, Municipal Waste and local bands Two Pump Chump, My Own Victim, Stonecutters and many, many more.Jeff is a Louisville native, has been producing art for over 30 years, and is happily married with 3 children.

Dawn of the Dead Zombie shirts!

One of my favorite zombie movies is the original Dawn of the Dead. So I was pretty happy to get to design shirts for two of the actors that played zombies in the movie! Jim Krut (The helicopter zombie) and Leonard Lies (The machete zombie). You will only be able to get these shirts from both Jim and Leonard at shows they are at or maybe on thier sites. You can find Leonard on myspace. Besure to ask them about the new Gaither Dawn of the Dead Zombie shirts at the next show they will be at. Jim Krut will be at Eerie Horror Film Fest from Oct. 12-14 in Erie, Pa. and Leonard Lies will be at Cinema Wasteland Movie and Memorabilia Expo October 5th, 6th and 7th, 2007 then also the Erie Horror Film Fest with Jim.

Speaking of horror fests, don't forget I will be at the Horror & Comic Fest in Nashville October 20 & 21st, 2007. If you're in the are come out and see me. I will have a lot of eye candy (3 or 4 tables) for your sore eyes.

Mothman Festival 2007 update

Mothman Fest has come and gone. Thanks to Nathan Pazsint (The Stockholm Agency) and the Stockholm girls Cary & Meg for a cool time I had at the show. Besides the cool people I meet at the show, we also had a little time to vist the TNT bunkers (one of the places the mothman was origianlly seen in the 60's). A big thanks goes out to the Frick brothers John & Tim who took the time to show us the TNT bunkers. Sorry for the jokes we played on ya guys - we just had to do it! Fright Night Film Fest

Well Fright Night Film Fest 2007 has come and gone. I had a great time. Seen some old friends and made some new ones. Everyone at the show was very cool. Had a lot of laughs with Jim Krut (helicopter zombie from Dawn of the Dead) and Leonard Lies (machete zombie from Dawn of the Dead) who's table was right next to mine! The Claytons (the two lead zombies from Dawn of the Dead) was great and fun to talk to as always. Bob May (Lost in Space TV show) gave me a lesson on how to make a hot dog taste like a New York hot dog does (add onions and mustard haha). It was also great seeing and talking to all the people that stopped by my table! I look forward to next year. Fright Night Film Fest 2008 will have a show poster done by me, so you can say you heard it here 1st!. Plus keep your eyes open as some time in the future I will be doing shirts and or posters for Jim Krut, Leonard Lies and Ed Neal! Congratulations to Ed Neal and Teresa as they will be getting married soon. Thanks to all the other guests that signed stuff for me.

CUSTOM BART QEE

Here is my custom Bart for the show Toy Tokyo is doing. Not sure of dates etc but when I find out I will post them here. There is about 70+ photos of my Bart as I worked on it. Originally I was going to do the figure based on a Bart drawing I did. But along the way I changed my mind and wanted to be a normal Bart in a Halloween type costume. Bart Road Show

Toy Tokyo is helping 20th Century Fox promote the Simpson movie by having a show of custom Bart Simpson Qee toys. Toy Tokyo asked several notable people for a short list of 5 artists each. One of those notable people is Sal Canzonieri from Electric Frankenstein. Under the flag of Sal Canzonieri (Fistful of Rock & Roll ) will be myself, Dirty Donny, Stephen Blickenstaff, Steve Cerio, and Joe Simko. Each artist will be customizing a Bart Qee (shown above is the one I got). Then all the Barts (not sure how many customized Barts there will be total) will hit the road in a traveling Bart Qee Show. You will be able to see the Qee's several places in the states, Japan and China. The last show the Bart Qee's will be for sale. That's the news I got anyways :P So over the next few weeks I will be posting photos of the progress on my Bart Qee. Should be fun. So keep checking back to see my Bart come to life (or death) as it may be.

Texas Fear Fest 2 news...

As some of you know I did the show poster for the very 1st and largest horror convention in Texas history called Fear Fest. I did not get to attend the show but I have only heard great things about it. Here are a few photos of the show from Dread Central showing the poster I did. The great news is, it looks like I will be doing the poster for Fear Fest 2. The ideas for the poster are already going back and forth and it looks to be another killer Fear Fest poster! Maybe I will be at Fear Fest 2 to sign YOUR poster! We will see.

The Mayor of Nightmare Before Christmas

My wife really likes the two face Mayor from the movie so I am making one for her out of super sculpey. Here is a photo of my Mayor so far. I forgot about making arms on the armature before hand. Oh well I will figure it out. I will post another photo of my Mayor when I am finished making and painting it.

Today I am working on a painting that I hope to finish for a show coiming up in ONE DAY.
Also working on roughs for Guitar Hero 3.

New Front Page

I had to change my front page on the site as I just don't have the time to update the news section on it all the time. This blog I hope will work better plus it also takes the place of the guest book.

Its been busy here in Gaither land. Working on lots of cool projects. As they are done I will post images here for you to check out.

My art has been in several shows as of late. I would tell you where but as of right now my brain is on the zombie side of things and I can not recall one show name haha.

Some places you can catch me at with my art are the Forecastle Fest July 27th - 28th (Louisville), Derby City Espresso Art Show starting July 5th (Louisville), and I am a guest at the Fright Film Fest here in Louisville August 17th - 19th.

The photo I posted for the test post on the blog is a recent custom Circus Punk I painted for a collector. Turned out pretty cool I think. If you would like a custom Circus Punk (or anything else for that matter) contact me.

You know, sitting on your ass all day drawing can really take a toll on you after so many years. So I have started walking about an hour a day and eating better (no more cokes, candy etc arggg haha). I have been doing the "walking more eating less" for about a month or so now and have lost 20lbs! YAY for me haha.

Sad news. Another artist friend of mine pasted away last month. I done all kinds of art jams with Mike. He was a great guy and over the last year or so really got back into small press. I done a lot of stuff for his zines and mini comix back in the 80's. Crazy Man Go Wild being one you may recall. You will be missed Mike. Michael Roden RIP June 14th, 2007.
